Too many files open error
I am compiling a rather large book, and it's been working fine up until today. Suddenly, the exact source that used to compile now gets "too many files open", and indeed it does appear to be leaving open every graphics file that it accesses, until it runs out of file handles.
As far as I know, nothing has changed - I did not update my OS (Mac OS 10.7.5) or my LaTeX version (TeX Live 2012), or any of the packages. I tried rebooting my system.
Sounds impossible, right? So how do I go about figuring out what is going on? Obviously I can't post an MWE :)
